How Mindset Can Make or Break Your Sponsoring Efforts

Mindset over matter? What in the world does this have to do with sponsoring in Network Marketing.

Well, it turns out a lot. You see, sponsoring, recruiting and prospecting is all about psychology. Most importantly, it is the psychology of leadership and human group dynamics - this according to Mike Dillard himself.

Yes, it seems that everything we have been taught as Network Marketers doesn't necessarily hold a bag of beans in today's markets. If you have struggled with sponsoring the right people or sponsoring any people for that matter, then you need to take a page out of Mike Dillard's play book and draw up a new plan.

There is no "MAGIC" opener to use (huh?); or rebuttals or objections or scripts for that matter that will somehow open the door to a stream of quality prospects joining your opportunity. Actually, the most amazing scripts in the world are useless if you don't have one thing. What's that one thing... drum roll please... Mindset.

Oh come on you say? Mindset? Another article about having the right mindset in Network Marketing. Please, I can hardly stand it. But stay with me here for a minute please.

The goal in Network Marketing is to sell our prospects on a product or opportunity, right? WRONG! Within the sponsoring process the goal is actually NOT to sell our prospects on a product or opportunity. Sounds a little off doesn't it? Totally counter to what we are taught. After all, what is the point of talking to anyone if you are not there to basically "sell" them on the business or product?

Well, if you sell someone on joining your opportunity through the typical persuasive methods of dragging and pulling them into the business and hyping it up to the point where you have basically pushed every hot button you can think of; then maybe they will join. You may even recruit a lot of prospects this way, BUT...will they stay? Of course not.

How many times have you actually "SOLD" someone on your opportunity by making them feel if they didn't they would lose out on a chance of a lifetime? So they join, all excited that they will now be millionaires and they will be living on a beach sipping umbrella drinks for the rest of their years. Then reality hits and things are a little different than they expected and they become disillusioned and drop out never to be heard from again.

And you sit there scratching your head wondering "why"? Well, it seems pretty black and white doesn't it? But yet our uplines have taught us that any sell is a good sell so get as many people as you can to join the opportunity and you will be successful. This couldn't be further from the truth.

You see, to survive in today's market, you need to change your mindset about the way you sponsor, or you will be left in the dust holding a list of useless leads and looking at a stream of inactive downlines in your organization.

The new paradigm in selling in today's market is a unique, yet very effective concept. MAKE IT THEIR IDEA to buy from you. Yep, make people come to you and ask or better yet, give you permission to "pitch" your opportunity.

You can choose to do things one of two ways. You can continue to use the old ways of sponsoring and contact enough people until you make a sale OR...

You can have interested prospects find you in the marketplace and contact you.

The latter is a different mindset and it takes some getting used to for sure, but who finds and contacts the other person first is very important. You see, if you go after people then you become the "chaser" and you lose control immediately. The other person is in control at this point and you are basically "begging" them to join you. But if you have people coming to you first, then you hold the power - all of the power and now you have positioned yourself as the leader here and you are in control.

Very important concept to grasp and key to your success in sponsoring in Network Marketing today.

If you don't believe this then think about something for a moment. When someone joins your opportunity do you really believe they are joining it because of the great products or the fabulous commission structure? There are thousands of Network Marketing opportunities out there. What makes yours so different from all of the others? YOU. People join you.

They want someone who is going to lead them and get them to where they want to go - it doesn't matter what you are offering; if you present yourself as a leader and as someone who will help them get from point A to point B; then, tag, you are it. But you must be perceived as a leader or you are dead in the water. Without the proper mindset, you will never be able to make the transition from "needy" salesman to "assertive" leader. You need to see yourself as a leader and you will attract those types of people to you.

And in order to have this mindset, you need to change the way you approach your sponsoring efforts immediately. People today are inundated with information and they are wary at best of anyone trying to sell them. Don't be that person. People go into stores all the time looking to buy don't they? It has nothing to do with people not wanting to buy. People are always looking.

But as soon as someone comes up to them and starts "annoying" them, they leave. If that person offered their knowledge and help instead of trying to hard sell them, then chances are they would make the sale. This holds true for Network Marketing also.

Offer your prospects value and knowledge. Be a leader in their eyes. Go above your opportunity and step out of your current mindset to offer VALUE first. The rest will follow but it takes a change in the way you approach things. Attraction begins with you and what you are thinking. Try to be in that "coaching" place rather than that selling place.

Become an expert in your field. Become an expert in Network Marketing. Become an expert in Attraction Marketing and Sponsoring. These are all imperative if you want to be successful today.

So your very first step in changing your mindset is to "Get Invited" into your prospects world.

Well written hub. Love the idea of attraction marketing. That's another thing that writing and submitting articles does. Using that for 8 years, it's working well. How about you?
